‘Orange is the New Black’ Star Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli File for Divorce
Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli are parting ways.
Indeed, the Orange is the New Black actress and screenwriter—who first met in 2012 during production of the hit Netflix series—announced that they have decided to file for divorce after nine years of marriage.
“After nine years together we have decided to end our marriage,” the couple said in a statement to Out published Jan. 29. “However, our lifelong commitment to co-parenting will forever remain.”
The couple began dating in 2014, shortly after Lauren, 43, split from her then-husband Steve Basilone. Following the breakup, she opened up about exploring her sexuality while writing for Orange is the New Blackwhich follows multiple queer relationships.
“I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the set,” Lauren wrote in a 2014 essay for Identities.Mic of her experience working on the show. “Accordingly, I was nervous about the first love scene I’d written for Alex (played by Laura Prepon) and Piper (played by Taylor Schilling).”
