The Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) charged former pilot Pedro Turra, aged 19, with intentional homicide for futile reasons for the death of teenager Rodrigo Castanheira, aged 16. According to the prosecution, Pedro acted freely and consciously, taking the risk of killing.
In addition to criminal liability, the MPDFT also requires that Turra be sentenced to pay R$400,000 for moral damages to the victim’s family.
The case occurred on January 23rd. According to investigations, the fight started after Pedro threw chewed gum at a friend of Rodrigo. The teenager allegedly reacted, starting an exchange of aggression. During the confrontation, Rodrigo fell and hit his head on a car door, suffering head trauma.
He remained hospitalized for 16 days and died last Saturday (7), as a result of his injuries.
In the complaint, the MPDFT highlights the disproportionality between the reason that started the discussion and the fatal outcome, classifying the crime as committed for a futile reason. The case now goes to court, which will decide whether the former pilot will be submitted to a popular jury.
