Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new round of negotiations to end the war with Russia.
The meetings will take place next Wednesday and Thursday, in Abu Dhabi, with Ukrainian, Russian and North American envoys. The capital of the United Arab Emirates already hosted another meeting between delegations last week, which ended without concrete progress.
The war between Russia and Ukraine is about to turn four years old and is already Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II. The impasse in negotiations for a ceasefire is linked to territorial issues. The Russians want full control of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, while the Ukrainians reject the possibility of ceding territory.
However, Zelensky has already admitted the possibility of holding a plebiscite on the issue, as long as there are guarantees of a ceasefire.
