Pentagon will cut its academic ties with Harvard

The Pentagon will sever all its academic ties with Harvard University, which will end military education, scholarships and certification programs, the entity said in a statement on Friday (6). The move is the latest chapter in President Donald Trump’s administration’s dispute with the prestigious Ivy League educational institution, which it accuses of promoting “woke” ideology, a pejorative term used by the radical right for diversity policies. “For too long, this Department has sent our best and brightest officers to Harvard, hoping that the university would better understand and value our warrior class,” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said in the bulletin. See the videos that are trending on g1 “Instead, many of our officers came back looking too much like Harvard: with their heads full of globalist and radical ideologies that do not improve our combat ranks,” he added. The Pentagon indicated that the rupture of ties will begin in the 2026-2027 academic year, and that military personnel who are currently studying will be able to complete them. In another post on social network X, Hegseth used his preferred term for the Department of Defense: “Harvard is ‘woke’; the Department of War is not.” The secretary stated that the Pentagon will review its ties with all Ivy League universities for military training and education. The Trump administration’s pressure on these institutions has led higher education officials to express concern about the possibility of erosion of academic freedom.
