Last month, during Kim’s visit to a rocket factory, South Korean officials and analysts said the equipment could be used against South Korea, the North’s main adversary. Also last month, North Korea said it had shot down a South Korean surveillance drone. The episode threatened to undermine South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s efforts to strengthen ties with the neighboring country. This Thursday, Kim Yo-jong, sister of the North Korean leader, said she “enormously valued” the South’s promise to prevent further incursions of this type.
