A Nissan car owner shared a trick he discovered to permanently disable the start-stop function in his vehicle.
Ryan posted a video on his TikTok profile to explain that he hated the automatic engine stop feature after braking, a feature found in many modern cars.
Although several car manufacturers have adopted the tool, which allegedly helps reduce fuel consumption, most drivers hate the feature.
Ryan even explained that with the feature enabled, his car had been off for more than 8.5 hours and had only saved 11 gallons of fuel. Many internet users claim that to let start-stop the function being on can cause the car’s starting systems to wear out more quickly.
Fortunately, cars have start-stop programming also a button somewhere in the cabin that allows the driver to deactivate the function. However, it is not permanently disabled, so the driver must press the button manually each time the car is started.
This was what frustrated Ryan. Desperate to find a way to permanently disable the function, he explained that he had figured out how to do this with a simple piece of paper, which he inserted between the button and the panel.
“Yeah. I haven’t touched that button in weeks. And I’m the happiest man on the planet,” Ryan celebrated in a video he posted on his TikTok profile, which has already garnered over 40,000 views and several comments from users giving their opinions on Ryan’s hack.
“High-tech problems require low-tech solutions,” joked one TikTok user. “Personally, I would pull the switch and wire it up so it was pulled up/down without it [pinnen]but this way it also works,” analyzed another.
“It’s a big problem because it should be optional, not on by default, and have to be disabled manually every time you start the vehicle,” complained a third user. “Just let your battery get so low that start-stop not being activated,” joked another.
