Mercedes-Benz Classe S returns to V8 with 530 hp biturbo engine

Mercedes-Benz has updated the Classe S for 2027 with extensive technical changes and has brought back the biturbo V8 engine. The S 580’s 4.0-litre has been given a flat crankshaft and now produces 530 hp, which strengthens both performance and refinement.

On the outside, the most important innovation is the car’s new light signature, which consists of headlights and taillights shaped like the three-pointed star, an illuminated grill and an illuminated hood ornament as an option.

The optional screens for the rear seats are larger than before, at 13.1 inches instead of 11.1, and the integrated cameras now enable video conferencing. The tablet that was previously located between the rear seats has been removed and replaced by two remote controls.

The latest version of MBUX-the operating system now integrates car-related artificial intelligence from Googlewhile the available sound systems reach top level with Dolby Atmos. Active mood lighting is also available as an option.

A big news is that the Classe S 2027, in addition to the existing list of heated elements – such as seats, steering wheel, armrests and headrests – will be the first car to be offered with heated front seat belts.

Other changes to the cabin include a revised center console with two charging surfaces for mobile phones as well as a redesigned steering wheel that replaces some of the complex touch-sensitive controls from Mercedes-Benz with physical buttons.

As for powertrains, they get three model designations S500, S580 and S580e significant updates. S500 returns with a 3.0-liter inline-six with turbo and supercharger, which now produces 442 hp.
