Macron invites Lula to the G7 Summit amid event in India

On the afternoon of this Thursday (19), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, met during the Summit on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence, in New Delhi. On that occasion, the Brazilian president was invited to participate in the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France.

The two heads of state discussed issues on the bilateral agenda, with emphasis on cooperation in defense, science and technology and trade. They also addressed integration in border areas and joint initiatives to combat drug trafficking, illegal mining and other transnational crimes in the region that connects Amapá to French Guiana.

They highlighted that commercial exchange reached a record of 10.3 billion dollars in 2025, although they recognized that the volume is still below the potential of the two economies. Lula and Macron also talked about topics on the international agenda, such as peace, security and artificial intelligence. The G7 Summit that Lula was invited to is scheduled for June 15th and 16th.

The meeting takes place amid negotiations to ratify the free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. France is one of the countries most critical of the treaty.
