Laura Dern has no problem calling out big and little lies about today’s beauty standards.
While discussing her experience in Hollywood over the years, the 58-year-old actress detailed how the industry’s perception of beauty has changed—and not necessarily for the better.
“Lately, I have never seen more shame around aging and women as public figures, and it’s just so tragic,” Laura told The Independent in an interview published Jan. 31. “It’s so much worse now than for my mother’s generation.”
The Jurassic Park star—who is the daughter of actors Bruce Dern and the late Diane Ladd—recalled specific conversations that her mom had during her childhood that ultimately stuck with her.
“I remember, when I was a child,” Laura shared, “hearing her friends talk about the pressure at 70 to get a facelift if you wanted to keep working.”
Nowadays, the mom of two—she shares daughter Jaya21, and son Ellery24, with ex-husband Ben Harper—noted that the pressure is felt by women decades earlier.
