Iranian authorities confirmed 85 dead in Israel’s attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school for girls in Minab, in the south of the country. President Masoud Pezeshkian classified the episode as a “barbaric act”.
In a statement, Pezeshkian condemned the attacks. “The martyrdom of dozens of innocent students after the cowardly attack by American and Zionist aggressors against civilian centers hurts the hearts of all the Iranian people,” said the president.
According to the Minab Public Prosecutor’s Office, there were 170 students at the time of the attack at the school. Rescue teams are still looking for victims trapped under the rubble, and hospitals have received at least 40 injuries with various mutilations.
Explosions hit Iranian cities and provoke military reaction and chaos in Tehran
In the early hours of this Saturday morning (28), Israel and the United States launched attacks against the Persian country. Explosions hit Tehran and other cities, such as Tabriz in the northwest and Isfahan in the center. Iran responded by launching missiles and drones against American military bases located in Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and military centers on Israeli territory, according to the Revolutionary Guard.
According to the EFE news agency, it is not possible to independently verify the extent of the Israeli and American attacks in the Islamic Republic, because the international press is not allowed to go to or take images in the places affected by the bombings.
