The Iranian government reported this Friday morning (6) that indirect talks between the country and the United States had a “good start” and should continue. Despite this, the talks ended without agreement. The meetings took place in Oman, with the content of the negotiations not yet clarified, while Tehran maintains the position that discussions should be restricted to the nuclear issue.
The North American delegation entered the palace and stayed for around an hour and a half. Representatives from the US and Iran spoke separately with the sultanate’s Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi.
Diplomats from Egypt, Turkey and Qatar presented a proposal to the Persian country: halt uranium enrichment for three years, send the enriched material outside the country and commit not to start using ballistic missiles.
After the meeting ended without an agreement, the United States announced new sanctions on Iran to restrict oil exports, including the imposition of 14 oil tankers.
