The international press is covering the Federal Police report that provides evidence of connections between Daniel Vorcaro and Banco Master with the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Dias Toffoli.
In a report published this Thursday (12), the British agency Reuters highlighted Toffoli’s claim that he never received payments and never had any relationship with Vorcaro.
“The statement came after Federal Police management sent a report to the president of the Federal Supreme Court, Edson Fachin, citing references to Toffoli in data extracted from Vorcaro’s cell phone, obtained through a search and seizure authorized by the Court, according to a source familiar with the report,” wrote Reuters.
“Toffoli is overseeing the Banco Master investigation, and his role in the case has attracted attention both inside and outside the court,” said the British agency.
The American agency Bloomberg highlighted that the STF is evaluating whether to keep Toffoli in charge of the investigation into Banco Master, “after a Federal Police report raised questions about his links with the struggling bank and its executive director, according to a person familiar with the situation”.
“The president of the Federal Supreme Court, Edson Fachin, will likely ask the plenary to vote on whether Toffoli should continue supervising the investigation into allegations of financial fraud at Banco Master, said the person, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive matters,” said Bloomberg, who expressed skepticism about the possibility of Toffoli’s removal from the case.
“It is unclear whether there would be sufficient support to remove Toffoli from the case, given the court’s traditional deference to its individual members, the person familiar with the situation said,” the US agency said.
The Argentine website Infobae emphasized the Federal Police’s request for Toffoli to be suspected in the case “due to his alleged links with one of the accused”.
“In recent weeks, Toffoli’s stay as investigating judge in the case has been questioned after the revelation of alleged irregularities in an investment fund linked to Banco Master. This fund allegedly acquired a stake in a resort in Paraná, belonging to the judge’s relatives”, highlighted Infobae.
