The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro arrived in the United States this Monday (2), for a meeting with the President of the USA, Donald Trump. The meeting will take place at the White House tomorrow (3).
The Colombian Presidency announced that Petro’s agenda in the US includes political, academic and business activities, as well as meetings with the Colombian community in the United States. The president, who received a space visa after the US State Department canceled his previous visa, after being included on the so-called “Clinton list”, which identifies and blocks assets of individuals and companies suspected of money laundering or drug trafficking.
Tensions between the two countries began due to disagreement between leaders regarding the fight against drug trafficking in the South American country, with Trump even threatening to invade Colombian territory. In recent weeks, these tensions have decreased and Petro has expressed optimism that he will sign a pact with the North American government.
