Veterans from the war in Ukraine will train German soldiers in drone operations and in defense against enemy attacks.
The agreement was signed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the magazine The mirror.
The talks between the Bundeswehr and the Ukrainian authorities have been ongoing since 2025, with a focus on utilizing the experience gained in the fight against Russian forces. The initiative aims to strengthen the operational capacities of the German forces, particularly in scenarios for modern warfare.
Among the main points of the collaboration are the tactical use of drones, protection against enemy attacks and the application of simple digital systems for planning and managing operations. German officers emphasized that Ukraine today possesses the greatest practical combat experience within NATO.
Unlike the German systems, which were developed in peacetime and are considered complex, the Ukrainian solutions have been tested directly on the front line and are continuously being improved. The Ukrainian veterans are expected to arrive in Germany soon to mainly contribute to the training of infantry units.
