The Ukrainian Air Force has begun deploying French Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter jets in strike missions against positions of Russian forces.

The information was published by the “Sunflower” Telegram channel, associated with the Ukrainian Air Force, which also published a video allegedly showing the first combat use of the aircraft in an offensive role on the front.

The footage shows the detonation of two highly accurate guided bombs AASM Hammer to a ground target in one of the sectors of the front line.

According to previous official announcements, they were Mirage 2000 delivered to Ukraine have so far been used mainly for air defense missions, when they intercepted Russian missiles with a flat flight path and unmanned aerial vehicles.

“We thank France for the continued support of our army and for modern and high-quality weapons,” the channel said in its post.

Changing the operating profile

The release represents the first publicly available video footage of an air-to-ground attack by a Ukrainian-operated Mirage 2000 aircraft.

The inclusion of AASM Hammer bombs expands the operational spectrum of this platform, which can now also act as a means of precision strikes against fortified ground targets or logistical concentrations.

In addition to guided bombs, Ukraine’s Mirage 2000s are armed with French MBDA MICA and Matra Magic II air-to-air missiles to combat aerial targets, strengthening the country’s air defense capability.

Supplies and training

It was recently confirmed that Ukraine should receive two more aircraft from France by the end of the first quarter of 2026.

These machines will complement the three aircraft delivered last year. However, one of them was lost during the summer, which should mean that at least four fighters will be operationally available by the end of 2026.

The delivery of the new aircraft is accompanied by an extended training program for pilots and ground technical personnel. Three Ukrainian pilots are currently undergoing training in France to operate the Mirage 2000 aircraft.

With the increasing number of aircraft and the integration of precision-guided munitions, the Mirage 2000 is expected to take on a more versatile role within the structure of the Ukrainian Air Force, combining air defense with precision strike capabilities on the battlefield.
