The President of the United States, Donald Trump, will hold a Peace Council meeting for the first time this Thursday (19), in Washington. He intends to announce that the group’s member states have committed to donating more than $5 billion to humanitarian efforts to rebuild Gaza.
This amount is expected to be an initial payment for a fund that will likely need many more billions. According to the White House, member states have committed to providing thousands of personnel for an international stabilization force in the region.
Additionally, Italy and the European Union stated that their representatives plan to participate as observers, as they did not join the council. Although the Council’s main objective is the reconstruction of Gaza and its leadership, there will not be representatives from Palestine, but rather from Israel.
