The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Edson Fachin, stated this Monday (2) that the development of a Code of Ethics for the court is a commitment of his management. And he announced that minister Carmem Lúcia will be the rapporteur of the proposal.

The discussion about a Code of Conduct at the STF occurs amid investigations into Banco Master, which are at the STF and have highlighted cases such as those of ministers Dias Toffoli and Alexandre de Moraes.

Fachin’s proposal provides for the mandatory disclosure of funds received by ministers for participating in events and lectures. The rules also include a one-year quarantine so that retired ministers can return to work in consultancies and opinions, in addition to a permanent ban on advocating before the court.

The opening session was attended by the Presidents of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT); from the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP); of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). Other ministers of the Court were also present; the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet; the president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Beto Simonetti; and government ministers.
