Explosions are heard in Tehran, Capital of Iran; Israel announces ‘preemptive strike’

AP Explosions were heard in the center of Tehran, the capital of Iran, early this Saturday morning (28) local time. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described it as a “preemptive strike” and an action to “eliminate threats.” He did not immediately provide further details. The Israeli Armed Forces said they activated air warning sirens in several areas of the country “to prepare the population for the possibility of missile launches against Israel.” They also announced the suspension of classes and people traveling to work. The attack comes at a time when the United States has assembled a fleet of fighter jets and warships in the region to try to pressure Iran into reaching an agreement over its nuclear program.
