Epstein case shakes British government British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, denied this Tuesday (10) that he will resign his mandate. ➡️ Starmer responded to a wave of external and internal pressure for him to step down after links between Jeffrey Epstein and former UK ambassador to Washington Peter Mandelson came to light. ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp The prime minister was the one who appointed Mandelson, the center of the Epstein case scandal in the United Kingdom — documents revealed that he received money from the businessman, convicted of running a sex trafficking network and abusing minors. “I will never abandon the mandate entrusted to me to change this country,” Starmer told reporters on Tuesday. “I will never abandon the people I have the responsibility to fight for, and I will never abandon the country I love.” ➡️ Files published by the United States Department of Justice indicate that Mandelson received money from Jeffrey Epstein and leaked confidential documents from the British government. British police opened a criminal investigation to investigate the case. Starmer’s low popularity – around 18% – already brought fragility to the government. The Epstein case and the error in choosing Mandelson further undermined the prime minister’s credibility. His party, Labor, is divided: one wing calls for resignation, another shows full support. This internal struggle could be the beginning of the rupture of the British government. On Sunday (8), his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, who suggested Mandelson’s name to Starmer, resigned due to the crisis (see the video below). On Monday (9), its Communications director, Tim Allan, resigned. Mandelson himself, who is married to a Brazilian, also resigned from his position in the British Parliament. Epstein case ousts UK Prime Minister’s chief of staff Epstein’s files also hit the royal family. Former Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles, appeared in photos crouching over a woman. Andrew, who served as the UK’s commercial representative, is also being investigated on suspicion of passing confidential information about investment opportunities to Epstein. His ex, Sarah, is also mentioned. In an exchange of messages with Epstein, she recounts intimate details about her own daughter, Princess Eugenie. And this is all after Epstein’s first conviction for child prostitution in 2008. A spokesperson for Prince William and Princess Kate said they are “deeply concerned” and thinking about the victims. Buckingham Palace also spoke out and said it is ready to assist the police in their work against Andrew.
