American President Donald Trump said this Friday (13) that Ukraine “has to give in” to end the war with Russia. Trump has been trying since the beginning of his term to negotiate a ceasefire between the two countries.
Negotiations have advanced on some points, but the issue of territorial concessions continues to be one of the biggest obstacles to ending the war. Russia wants to annex southern and eastern regions of Ukraine.
On the same day, during the Munich Security Conference, French President Emmanuel Macron defended increasing pressure against Russia. Macron said it was essential that Ukraine did not give in to Russian demands and that Moscow would continue to pose a risk even if there was a deal.
The opposing statements, given practically at the same time by the two leaders, show the growing conflict of interests between Washington and Europe.
