The Civil Police of Amazonas carried out this Friday (20) an operation against a criminal nucleus of the Red Command. In total, 23 preventive arrest warrants and 24 search and seizure warrants were issued. The orders were carried out in Manaus, Belém, Ananindeua, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Teresina and Estreito, and had the integrated support of the security forces of the states of Ceará, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, São Paulo and Piauí, due to the interstate nature of the financial movements and operational connections identified with the investigations.
As of this morning, 14 people have been arrested. Among the targets of the operation called “Erga Omnes” are the former chief of staff of the mayor of Manaus, a police officer, three former advisors to councilors and a servant at the Court of Justice of Amazonas. According to the police, the criminal scheme has generated R$70 million since 2018, using front companies to buy drugs in Colombia and distribute them. The faction still maintained a nucleus in the executive, legislative and judicial powers.
According to delegate Marcelo Martins, responsible for the 24th DIP, investigations began in August last year and showed that the drug trafficking scheme had connections within the public administration itself. Investigations indicated that several servers worked in partnership with drug traffickers, assisting criminal activities.
According to Martins, reports from the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf) analyzed in the investigation identified large financial transactions made by employees involved in organized crime. Support was provided both through logistical support and through facilitating access to public bodies and the transfer of confidential information.
