The Xpenga Chinese electric car maker, has seen strong buyer interest after announcing its personal aircraft-equipped electric vehicle.

According to the site Car and Driverthe car is equipped with six-wheel drive, an extended range propulsion system that guarantees over 950 km on a single charge, bus-style rear doors and four seats.

But the real strength is the Land Aircraft Carriera personal aircraft supplied with the car. The VTOL drone, capable of carrying a human occupant in flight, can be flown manually or in autonomous mode and charges while it remains housed in the vehicle’s cargo area.

It may just seem like a futuristic concept out of a 2000s movie, but the Xpeng appears determined to make this dream a reality, with plans to start production by the end of 2026.

The brand’s European executives have already indicated that the plant is ready to build the vehicle and that pre-production models are already being built. Meanwhile, the company’s CEO instructed the entire management team to learn to fly the aircraft.

So far, over 7,000 people have already finalized the purchase to receive one of these “flying cars”. However, the innovation raises some questions: Would a real pilot’s license be needed to own one, or would a drone operator’s license suffice?

For use in urban areas, some specific regulations would be necessary. In any case, one thing is certain: the future is already here. Soon, instead of being stuck in traffic, you will be able to simply park and hop on your personal drone to arrive on time for your appointment.
