by Marcelo Moreira

After she finally introduced the category’s contenders, Cher began the standard, “And the Grammy goes to…” bit, but continued to stand there in silence without opening the envelope with the winner’s name.

Once she finally opened the card, she capped off her memorable visit to the Grammys by announcing late musician Luther Vandrosswho died in 2005, as the winner of Record of the Year.

Of course, after a bit of laughter from the audience, Cher ultimately corrected herself, announcing Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s song “Luther,” which actually samples music from the late Vandross, as the rightful recipient of the trophy.

“First and foremost,” producer Subwave said while accepting the award, “let’s give a shout out to the late great Luther Vandross.”

Once the night’s most laugh-filled moment came to an end, Trevor looked at the audience and said, “I love live television.”

Read on to see the other memorable moments you might have missed from the 2026 Grammys.
