A Swedish Navy CB90 combat vessel collided with a rock formation in the Gothenburg archipelago during a training exercise, leaving four injured, two of them seriously.
The accident occurred near the island of Rör, while conscripts were participating in practical maneuvers to learn how to operate this type of high-speed military boat.
The investigation conducted by the Swedish Aviation and Transport Accident Investigation Commission highlighted a series of serious safety failures. No crew member was wearing a seat belt and there were no protective helmets on board at the time of the activity. Furthermore, the training carried out was considered too complex for the level of preparation of the team involved.
The final report also highlighted that the navigation took place in conditions of low visibility, with insufficient knowledge of the navigation system and, above all, at a speed above that appropriate for the situation. The Swedish Armed Forces themselves acknowledged that the crew moved too quickly, although they defend the importance of training high-speed operations even in adverse scenarios.

Another point criticized was the command structure during the incident, which made rescue coordination difficult and delayed care for the victims. The commission also highlighted problems with the available equipment, such as helmets considered too heavy for use on board and belts unable to absorb the force of an impact.
The CB90 model, it is worth remembering, was recently supplied to the Ukrainian Navy by Sweden and Norway.
