In a speech, Lula stated that the understanding marks an advance in the strategic partnership between the two countries and reinforces cooperation in the areas of renewable energy and energy transition. “Increasing investments and cooperation in renewable energy and critical minerals is at the heart of the pioneering agreement we signed today,” said Lula. “Within the framework of the Global Alliance for Biofuels, our countries are ensuring due space for this technology on the global climate and energy agenda,” he continued. According to Modi, the understanding “is an important step towards building resilient supply chains”. Brazil holds the second largest global reserves of these resources. India, which seeks to reduce dependence on China, has invested in expanding domestic production, recycling and diversifying suppliers. Lula arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday (18) to participate in a global summit on artificial intelligence. This Saturday, he was received with an official ceremony, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and met with Modi to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
