Former President of the United States Bill Clinton, of the Democratic Party, gave testimony this Friday (27) to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform of the House of Representatives, as part of the investigation into pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and stated under oath that he had no knowledge of the crimes committed by the financier.
“I saw nothing and did nothing wrong,” he declared in his opening speech.
According to a statement released by Clinton himself on his account on the social network X, he stated that he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activities.
“I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing. No matter how many photos I’m shown, there are two things that, in the end, matter more than the interpretation of these images from 20 years ago. I know what I saw and, more importantly, what I didn’t see. I know what I did and, more importantly, what I didn’t do,” he said.
Clinton’s testimony took place behind closed doors in Chappaqua, New York, according to news reports. CNN. According to the broadcaster, Republican parliamentarians are considering releasing the video of the hearing in the coming days. The session takes place one day after the committee heard from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Bill’s wife.
In the statement, Clinton stated that she would have reported Epstein if she had any suspicions about his actions.
“If I had had any clue what he was doing, I wouldn’t have flown in his plane – I would have reported him myself,” he said. He added that, when the plea deal signed by Epstein in 2008 became public, he had already stopped keeping in touch with him.
According to the American press, Clinton traveled at least 16 times on Epstein’s private plane in the 2000s. Files on the case released by the United States Department of Justice also include photographs of the former president alongside Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former companion, sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking of minors. Despite mentions in the documents, there are no formal charges against Clinton so far.
The House committee is investigating, according to a statement from Republican congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, whether Epstein had participated in a possible “intelligence collection operation” involving influential figures.
This Friday, President Donald Trump commented on Clinton’s testimony. Asked by journalists about the hearing, Trump declared that he “does not like” seeing Clinton being heard by the committee, but highlighted that, when he was the target of investigations, the parliamentarians “were much tougher”. Trump took the opportunity to once again deny any involvement in the crimes committed by Epstein.
