An autonomous dump truck developed by KAMAZ has started testing in a granite quarry located in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) in eastern Ukraine.
According to the information published on the official channel of the head of the region, Denis Pușilin, the tests are carried out in the Karan quarry. In this phase, the vehicle performs experimental production tasks according to parameters previously set by an operator.

Driverless operation

The truck was designed to operate without a driver. Cameras installed around the vehicle structure continuously monitor the environment and transmit data to the on-board computer. The system processes information with the help of five distinct neural networks, responsible for establishing routes, analyzing obstacles and defining the operating algorithm.
According to the developers, this is an unprecedented technological solution in Russia in the segment of heavy industrial transport.
Potential operational impact
The implementation of this type of technology in industrial companies and road infrastructure projects could help increase productivity and speed up the execution of tasks in environments such as quarries and surface mines.
Those responsible for the project also intend to develop an overall operational management system for the quarry, where all the specialized machinery will work in an integrated manner and be controlled from a centralized command center.

The initiative is part of a larger project to automate quarry activities, with the aim of developing and expanding advanced robotic and autonomous technologies for application in road works and industrial activities.
Context regional
The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) is a self-proclaimed entity in eastern Ukraine that declared independence in 2014, but is not recognized by most states and international organizations.
