This Carnival weekend, in the city of São Paulo, more than 60 stolen cell phones were recovered by the security forces of the capital of São Paulo.

The so-called “Operation Carnival 2026” has already recorded 37 arrests in the city of São Paulo, involving cases of theft, robbery, adulteration of alcoholic beverages and compliance with court orders. Some of the arrests occurred with the support of the Muralha Paulista system, which uses smart cameras and real-time facial recognition to identify suspects among the public.

Other incidents were also recorded by the Military Police. In the Paraíso neighborhood, three men and one woman were arrested with nine cell phones. On Avenida Pedro Álvares Cabral, in the Ibirapuera region, four people were arrested with nine other stolen devices

In addition to the use of technology, security forces have invested in infiltration strategies. In the Republic region, civil police disguised as characters from the Scooby-Doo cartoon arrested three suspects and recovered eight cell phones that were hidden in the fanny pack of one of the detainees. In another action, during a megablock in Consolação, agents dressed as “Ghostbusters” seized 12 devices and arrested a suspect.
