Academics from Niterói praise President Lula in parade at Rio de Janeiro Carnival

by Marcelo Moreira

The Acadêmicos de Niterói samba school opened the Grupo Especial parades at Marquês de Sapucaí this Sunday (16) and praised President Lula. Furthermore, one of the allegories alluded to former president Jair Bolsonaro.

With the theme “From the top of Mulungu comes hope: Lula, the worker of Brazil”, the association paid homage to Lula’s trajectory from his childhood in the Northeast until his arrival at the Palácio do Planalto.

The president followed the presentation from the Rio City Hall box, alongside Mayor Eduardo Paes, and even went down to the track during the tribute. First Lady Janja was expected on the last float, but did not parade. The person who occupied the space was the singer Fafá de Belém.

The samba-enredo brought direct references to the PT, with mentions of the number 13 and the cry “Olê, olê, olê, olá, Lula, Lula”. The lyrics also mention Janja and the film “I’m Still Here”. The presentation also included an allegory alluding to former president Jair Bolsonaro, portrayed as a clown dressed in a striped prison uniform and wearing an electronic ankle bracelet with signs of rape.
