One of the Su-30SM fighters of the Kazakh Air Force crashed during a training flight, the country’s Ministry of Defense announced.
According to the official statement, the incident occurred during a planned training activity. The crew ejected in time and survived the crash. No details about the health of the pilots were made public.
The Ministry of Defense announced that a special investigation committee had been established to reveal the exact causes and circumstances of the accident. Military experts and technical specialists analyze flight data, weather conditions, and possible technical failures.
Previous incidents
This is not the first time that the type has been involved in an accident in the country. In 2021, another Kazakh fighter plane also suffered an accident, but – as in the current event – the pilots ejected successfully.
In August 2024, Kazakhstan received six new Su-30SM aircraft. The planes bearing red page numbers from “51” to “56” were put into service at the 602nd Air Base in Simkent. These aircraft are of Soviet origin, which were withdrawn earlier MiG-29 fighter jets were replaced.
