The 42-year-old woman who suffers from complications due to the use of an illegally sold weight loss pen remains hospitalized in serious condition in Belo Horizonte.
According to the family, Kellen Oliveira Bretas Antunes used the medication, purchased in Paraguay, without a medical prescription. She was hospitalized on December 17th with abdominal pain, but the condition progressed to neurological problems.
Muscles, speech and organs were affected. The suspicion is that she has developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a disease that compromises the body’s muscles and movements.
Anvisa warns that weight loss pens are only safe when prescribed by a doctor.
