The attempt was blocked by employees from the diplomatic representation, who prevented the agent from entering and activated emergency protocols. The incident took place amid tensions caused by anti-immigration operations carried out by federal agents in the Minneapolis region. The actions have been the target of protests, mainly due to reports of violence. According to the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, the measure aimed to guarantee the safety of Ecuadorian citizens who were there at the time. “In light of what happened, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic immediately presented a note of protest to the United States Embassy in Ecuador, so that acts of this nature are not repeated in any of Ecuador’s consular offices in the United States,” he stated. Until the last update of this report, ICE had not commented on the case. It is still unclear why the Immigration Service agent attempted to enter the Ecuadorian consulate. Trump said on Tuesday that he intends to “de-escalate” the situation in Minnesota, indicating that he has ordered a reduction in the number of agents there. According to the American press, ICE members are expected to leave the region in the coming days. Additionally, the White House relocated Gregory Bovino, who led operations in the region through the Border Patrol, to California.
