Restrictions on applying for American visas come into force this Thursday (21). The rule changes were announced last week by the United States government. Seventy-five countries, including Brazil, will be impacted.
The decision does not affect tourists or business travel. Additionally, the processing and issuance of immigrant visas will be halted. In other words, anyone who already has an interview scheduled or is seeking a tourist visa will not be affected by the suspension.
American authorities have not yet announced the duration of the restriction. According to the US State Department, the objective is to reevaluate the criteria for granting visas. The agency also stated that the freeze will remain in effect “until the United States can ensure that new immigrants do not extract wealth from the American people.”
