Oshkosh Defense has received a new order from the US Army to supply an additional 97 FMTV A2 LVAD trucks in 6×6 and 4×4 configurations. The contract also includes preparation kits for operations in the Arctic and thus expands the usability of the vehicles under extreme conditions.

The FMTV A2 LVAD was developed to support mobile brigade combat teams and was designed with a focus on rapid air delivery. This allows equipment and supplies to be delivered directly to remote, difficult to access or high-risk areas. This capability reduces dependence on fixed infrastructure and increases the logistical flexibility of airborne forces.

Sea Pat WilliamsDefense Program Director at Oshkoshthe system “closes a known mobility gap for the airborne force” by combining robustness, modularity and air-deployment readiness.

The validation process of the vehicle took place step by step. The 6×6 variant began testing in 2023, including evaluations of rollover protection systems, landing preparation training, and simulated landing impacts. The 4×4 model entered testing in mid-2024 and completed three successful landings at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona in early 2025.

With the new delivery, the US Army expands its fleet of tactical vehicles prepared for airborne operations, strengthening the ability for rapid response and mobility in complex scenarios, including in regions with extreme climatic conditions.
