A repair center for the Ukrainian Army’s Marder infantry fighting vehicle has been opened in northern Romania, close to the Ukrainian border.
The facility, called Service Hub Satu Mare, was set up in a short period of time and is intended to accelerate the recovery of combat-damaged vehicles and maintain the operational readiness of fleets of vehicles used in conflicts.
According to Rheinmetall, the new center will be equipped to carry out complex repairs and will also be able to recover damage caused by combat operations. Its strategic location close to Ukraine reduces transit times and allows armored vehicles to return to active service quickly.
Germany has already supplied 140 Marder 1A3s to the Ukrainian army and has announced its intention to supply more. As part of the “Ring Exchange” program, the Chilean government agreed to sell 30 Marder 1A3s from the Chilean Army’s inventory and replenish Germany’s inventory.
The vehicles transferred by Rheinmetall previously served in the German Army and will undergo a thorough inspection and modernization before being sent to Ukraine. This process ensures that the armored vehicle arrives at the operational area in proper operational condition.
