The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Thursday (29) that the USA will reopen Venezuela’s airspace. According to Trump, the reopening was decided after a conversation on Thursday (28) with the country’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez.
In November last year, Trump had recommended that commercial planes not fly over the country. Although it does not have legal authority to close another country’s airspace, the recommendation led several airlines to suspend flights flying over Venezuelan territory. Tension between the countries has increased and the Americans have expanded their military presence in the Caribbean Sea since August 2025.
With the positioning of American aircraft carriers and other military personnel, the message was in practice equivalent to a closure of airspace.
Finally, the American president also stated that the main oil companies from the United States are going to the South American country to start new oil prospecting projects.
