The President of the United States, Donald Trump, put on display at the White House a photograph of himself alongside Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, taken during the meeting between the two leaders in Alaska in August last year. The image was installed in the so-called “Palm Room”, one of the recently renovated rooms of the presidential house, which connects the West Wing to the official residence.
The photograph was framed in gold and positioned above another image of the American president with one of his granddaughters. Both photos became part of the permanent decoration of the Palm Room after the completion of renovations in the space.
According to information published by The New York Timesthe image displayed is the same one that Trump presented to journalists in the Oval Office last year, when he claimed that the photograph had been sent to him by Putin after the summit held in Anchorage. At the time, the American president commented that the Russian leader “looked good” in the image and said he considered the gesture “very kind”.
According to the international press, Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s chief negotiator in the peace negotiations over Ukraine, commented that the display of the photo of Trump and Putin in the White House is significant, stating that “a picture is worth a thousand words”.
