The US Army orders Oshkosh trucks adapted for airborne landings and operations in the Arctic

Oshkosh Defense received a new contract from the United States Army for the delivery of another 97 FMTV A2 LVAD trucks in 6×6 and 4×4 configurations. The contract also includes preparation kits for operations in Arcticexpanding the possibilities of using vehicles in extreme conditions.

The FMTV A2 LVAD was designed to support mobile brigade combat teams and was developed with an emphasis on rapid air landing, enabling direct delivery of equipment and supplies to remote, difficult-to-reach or high-risk areas. This capability reduces dependence on fixed infrastructure and increases the logistical flexibility of airborne troops.

According to Williams spotdirector of defense programs in Oshkoshthe system “fills the known airborne mobility gap” by combining durability, modularity and airborne readiness.

The vehicle validation process was carried out in stages. The 6×6 variant began testing in 2023, including evaluation of rollover prevention systems, landing preparation training and simulated landing impacts. The 4×4 model entered the testing phase in mid-2024, and in early 2025 it made three successful landings at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.

With the new delivery, the U.S. Army expands its fleet of airborne-ready tactical vehicles, enhancing rapid response capabilities and mobility in complex scenarios, including regions with harsh climates.
