The delegation of the Polish Armed Forces recently assessed the Embraer light combat aircraft A-29 Super Tucano and a medium transport aircraft Embraer C/KC-390 Millenniumwhich are currently being considered in terms of the country’s future operational needs.
The visit to the Embraer Defense & Security plants in Brazil took place in mid-January, reported the specialist portal Defence24.

The delegation included representatives of the Polish Air Force and was led by the deputy commander general, Major General Ireneusz Nowak. During the visit, the military learned about the demonstration capabilities of both platforms, undertook familiarization flights on the C/KC-390 Millennium and A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, and visited the production lines of the Brazilian manufacturer.
In addition to practical activities, technical specifications of the aircraft, configuration options, estimated purchase costs and projected operating costs, as well as preliminary commercial proposals for a possible contract were presented.
The Polish delegation also met with representatives of the Portuguese Air Force, one of the main users of the KC-390 Millennium. Portugal has already ordered six units to expand its fleet and acts as a sales intermediary for this platform.

In the tactical transport segment, Warsaw compares the KC-390 Millennium with the American Lockheed Martin C-130J-30. The Brazilian aircraft uses engines derived from the Airbus A320 family and has an estimated list price of approximately USD 85 million.
The A-29 Super Tucano, traditionally associated with counterinsurgency missions, was not previously among Polish priorities. For the same reason, a combat version of the domestic PZL PZL-130 Orlik training aircraft was not developed.
However, Embraer promotes the Super Tucano as a platform optimized to combat heavy One-Way Attack (OWA) kamikaze-class unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed — which is part of Poland’s efforts to strengthen its ability to counter unmanned systems.
