‘Stranger Things’ Documentary Director Addresses Claim Duffer Brothers Used ChatGPT for Finale

Inspiration can come from anywhere.

But no, One Last Adventure: The Making of Strangers Things 5 director Martina Radwan doesn’t think brothers Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer were using ChatGPT while writing the series finale, despite fan speculation over a laptop image seen in the doc.

While noting no one has actually confirmed if it was ChatGPT, Martina said to The Hollywood Reporter“But to me it’s like, doesn’t everybody have it open, to just do quick research?”

She further added, “How can you possibly write a storyline with 19 characters and use ChatGPT? I don’t even understand.”

Instead, Martina—again stressing no one knows what the internet tab actually said—emphasized that even if it was ChatGPT, that the AI tool is commonplace these days.

“That’s like having your iPhone next to your computer while you’re writing a story,” the documentary filmmaker said. “We just use these tools … while multitasking. What I find heartbreaking is everybody loves the show, and suddenly we need to pick it apart.”

But while the Stranger Things finale was indeed divisive, some fans thrilled with the show’s happy ending while others sought more, Martina stands by the Duffer brothers’ writing integrity.
