The São Paulo State Health Department confirmed the death of a man from dengue in the city of Nova Guataporanga, in the western region of the state, close to Presidente Prudente, an area on the border with the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. This is the first death from the disease this year.
Although the symptoms began on January 3, the date is computed as 2025 for epidemiological purposes, as it is the week that began last year.
In 2025, the state of São Paulo had 881,280 confirmed cases, 1122 confirmed deaths and 56 under investigation, in addition to 1461 cases of severe dengue.
In 2026, the state already records 971 confirmed cases and 3,389 under investigation, including two deaths. To date, there have been three cases of serious dengue confirmed in São Paulo.
The regions of Araçatuba and Presidente Prudente, in the west of the state, have the highest incidence rates, respectively with 13.58 and 8.57 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
According to the Ministry of Health, dengue cases in the country, in 2026, totaled 9,667 probable cases with three deaths under investigation. In 2025 there were 1,665,793 probable cases and 1,780 deaths.
The period with the highest incidence of dengue in Brazil in the last two years was between the beginning of March (eighth week) and the end of May (twentieth week).
