The Municipal Public Order Secretariat (SEOP) carried out, this Wednesday (21), the demolition of an irregularly built deck on Alameda Dalton Barreto, Ilha da Gigóia, in Barra da Tijuca, Southwest Zone of Rio. The wooden structure, measuring approximately 40 m², was erected without any authorization from Rio City Hall or the Brazilian Navy.
Officers arrived at the scene around 6am. The structure was already being used as an addition to the Briza da Gigóia restaurant, making direct access to vessels impossible, as there is a regularized deck next door. Engineers from Rio City Hall estimate a loss of R$48,000 to those responsible for the illegal work. The action was motivated by complaints from citizens and residents at 1746 at city hall.
“Every citizen needs to respect Rio’s urban planning rules. There is no valid license for this type of construction in that location. Furthermore, the structure was harming other duly regulated establishments”, highlighted the municipal secretary of Public Order, Marcus Belchior.
The owner was notified, but did not arrange for the structure to be removed. Approximately 20 city hall agents participate in the action.
