Air Force One, the official transport plane of the US Presidency, was forced to return to Joint Air Force Base Andrews on Tuesday night (20) with President Donald Trump, after experiencing an electrical problem, according to a White House official to The New York Times.

The White House leader was on his way to Switzerland, where he will speak this Wednesday (21) at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later reported that Trump would board another plane at the air base and head to his initial destination. He traveled on a smaller aircraft approximately an hour later, according to US media reports.

According to Leavitt, the plane returned “as a precaution” after the crew identified the problem 45 minutes after takeoff. According to reports, some of the aircraft’s cabin lights were not working properly.

In addition to Trump, several senior officials were on board the plane, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Susie Wiles, White House chief of staff. The American president is expected to delay his arrival by around three hours.

Before boarding the new plane, Trump briefly told the press that “this is going to be a very interesting trip, I don’t know what will happen.”

Other world leaders who spoke the day before took time out of their speeches to criticize the American president’s pressure on Greenland.
