Ukraine and Russia ended this Saturday the second day of negotiations mediated by the United States, in Abu Dhabi, without reaching an agreement. Despite the impasse, both sides signaled the possibility of new meetings.
The talks came after a series of Russian airstrikes overnight, which left more than a million Ukrainians without power amid the bitter winter cold.
After negotiations ended, neither party indicated that an agreement had been reached. Still, Moscow and Kiev said they were open to deeper dialogue.
A spokesperson for the UAE government confirmed that there was a face-to-face meeting between representatives of Ukraine and Russia — something rare in the almost four years of war that began after the large-scale Russian invasion. According to the spokesperson, the “outstanding points” of the peace agreement proposed by Washington were discussed.
Saturday was scheduled to be the last day of the negotiations, presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as the first trilateral meeting within the peace process mediated by the United States.
