Nazi separatists go on trial in Germany

The accused called themselves “Saxon Separatists”, or SSin clear allusion to national socialism. During the period of terror under Adolf Hitler from 1933 until the end of World War II in 1945, SS was short for Schutzstaffel, an elite paramilitary organization that served as a central instrument of power, crucial in the planning and execution of the Holocaust and other brutal crimes.
