MP-SP operation investigates embezzlement of around R$24 million in Ferraz de Vasconcelos (SP)

by Marcelo Moreira

City Hall and the Municipal Chamber of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, in São Paulo, were the targets of an investigation by the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MP-SP). Operation TAC, which since 2024 has been investigating the favoritism of companies linked to the First Command of the Capital (PCC), carried out around 22 search and seizure warrants this Tuesday (28).

The MP-SP did not find any target directly linked to the PCC, but the possibility of finding one in the future was not ruled out. In this operation, there were no arrests, but among the warrants, Daniel Balke, deputy mayor of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, was one of the targets, but was not removed from office. On the other hand, the secretaries of Finance, Environment and Administration, as well as a city councilor were removed. The police also seized several notebooks, cell phones, pen drives, as well as other information that could be used for future operations, in addition to R$145,000 in cash.

The scheme consisted of a company that had R$254 million in debts with the city and failed to pay them due to irregularly signed contracts. Public administration employees signed the contracts and received around R$750,000 in bribes so that the company would no longer fulfill its commitments to the city.

The agreements investigated are from 2022 and 2023, which include the current administration, as the mayor, Priscila Gambale, was re-elected. She spoke out on social media and supported the investigations. Furthermore, she explained that the contracts signed were signed by secretaries, as a municipal law does not oblige the mayor to sign them, and therefore, she was not targeted at least at this time.
