Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), denied the request from Jair Bolsonaro’s lawyers for the former president to meet with the president of the Liberal Party, Valdemar Costa Neto. The Minister pointed out that, in addition to prison, Bolsonaro is complying with other precautionary measures, such as the prohibition on maintaining contact with other people being investigated.
The Federal Police (PF) indicted Valdemar in attempted crimes against democracy, but he was not denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). However, on Tuesday (22), the First Panel of the STF reopened the investigation against the PL president at Moraes’ request. This also influenced not authorizing the meeting with Bolsonaro, as the minister saw a risk to the ongoing investigations and prohibited contact between the person being investigated and the former president, already convicted.
The PF pointed out that Valdemar had supported and financed questions about the integrity of electronic voting machines and played a central role in spreading doubts about the electoral system.
