A mechanic showing how it was possible to start a Cadillac with the keys out of the ignition leaves Internet users shocked.

In a video posted on his TikTok profile, Alex Rodrigues appears seated in the driver’s seat of a model of Cadillac unspecified, while holding the vehicle keys in the air.
He then reaches out to turn on the headlights. Suddenly, the car starts, causing the mechanic and the cameraman to laugh. The video has already exceeded 220,000 views.
In the comments, Internet users were just as surprised. “I’m no expert, but I think a car shouldn’t do this,” one TikTok user admitted. “Call a priest,” joked another.
Despite the jokes that the Cadillac would be “owned”, the mechanic explained in the comments that the problem was caused by a failure of the body control module (BCM).
The BCM manages everything from lights and wipers to door locks and ignition logic. When everything is working properly, the BCM can communicate normally with the systems necessary for these functions.
But if a module fails, often from heat, age, corrosion or the use of a low-quality second-hand part, it can send voltage where it shouldn’t.
This is why, in the case of Cadillac presented by Rodrigues, the headlights appear to have sent a false ignition or start signal via the faulty module, thus triggering the engine to start.
It should be noted that this problem is not exclusive to Cadillac. Vehicle owners Nissan, Toyota et Ford have also reported similar issues over the years.
