Márcio Borges is elected new immortal of the Academia Mineira de Letras

The poet, composer and writer from Minas Gerais Márcio Borges was elected, this Thursday (22), a new member of the Academia Mineira de Letras (AML). One of the founders of Clube da Esquina, he now occupies chair number 29, which had been vacant since the death of academic José Fernandes, in October 2025.

The election took place in a session chaired by Jacyntho Lins Brandão and was attended by 34 voters. Márcio Borges received 32 votes, surpassing 11 other candidates. The choice reaffirms the recognition of his artistic trajectory, marked by fundamental contributions to Brazilian music and literature, in addition to highlighting the historical importance of Clube da Esquina for the culture of Minas Gerais and the country.

The date of the induction ceremony has yet to be defined by the Academy and should take place in the coming months.
