A repair center for Marder infantry fighting vehicles belonging to the Ukrainian army has been inaugurated in northern Romania, near the Ukrainian border.
The facility, named Service Hub Satu Mare, was established in a short period of time and aims to speed up the recovery of vehicles damaged in combat, in order to maintain the operational readiness of the fleet used in the conflict.
According to Rheinmetall, the new center is fully equipped to carry out complex repairs, including restoration of damage caused by combat actions. The strategic location near Ukraine reduces transport times and makes it possible to return the armored vehicles to active duty more quickly.
Germany has already delivered 140 units of the Marder 1A3 to the Ukrainian forces and has publicly announced its intention to provide additional supplies. As part of the so-called “ring exchange” scheme, the Chilean government has agreed to sell 30 Marder 1A3 vehicles from the Chilean Army’s inventory to replenish Germany’s inventory.
The vehicles transferred by Rheinmetall were previously used by the German army and, before being sent to Ukraine, undergo extensive overhaul and modernization processes. This step ensures that the armored vehicles arrive at the operational area in a condition suitable for use.
